Woodland Hospital Launches New Weight Loss Surgery Service

Woodland Hospital will be launching a New Weight Loss Surgery Service this September for private self-paying patients, led by two Consultant Gastrointestinal Surgeons,  Professor David Bowrey and Mr Christopher Sutton. Patients will be supported by a personalised and multi-disciplinary team of specially trained nurses, a dietician ( Consultant Dietician, Dr Walpole) and a psychologist ( Consultant Psychologist, Dr Birah). Weight loss surgery has been shown to prevent, improve and sometimes cure conditions such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and sleep apnoea.

Patients with a BMI between 45 and 55 and who meet the specific lifestyle and clinical criteria will be offered an initial consultation with one of our two Consultants. The Consultant will discuss the most appropriate procedure for them to reach their individual weight loss goal,  such as gastric sleeve, gastric balloon or gastric band. The will be an approx. 6 week period between the initial consultation and surgery to prepare the patient for surgery.

David Munt, Hospital Director at the Woodland Hospital, “We are looking forward to assisting patients on their weight loss journey who have tried multiple methods of losing weight and committed to achieving their long term weight loss goals. Woodland Hospital provides modern facilities and has a reputation for excellent patient care with no acquired infections, ensuring our Bariatric patients are well looked after and in the best hands.
