Laser Surgery for haemorrhoids (piles), anal fistulas and pilonidal sinus
Laser Surgery for haemorrhoids (piles), anal fistulas and pilonidal sinus are now available at the Woodland Hospital. These operations are performed by Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon, Mr S Chaudhri and available for insured and self-pay patients.
LHP for haemorrhoids
Laser is used for treating advanced haemorrhoids under general anaesthesia. Laser energy is used to shrink the haemorrhoidal tissues similar to varicose vein laser therapy. As the energy of the laser is inserted centrally into the haemorrhoid (pile) there is little or no damage to the lining of the back passage. Healing is excellent because, unlike conventional surgeries, there are no incisions or stitches.
FiLAC for anal fistulas
FILAC (Fistula-tract assisted Laser Closure) treatment removes and destroys the infected fistula tract tissues very precisely. The flexible, radially emitting laser fibre is positioned exactly by using the pilot beam and applies energy to the pathway of the fistula tract. Using minimally invasive laser therapy, the treatment of anal fistulas does not damage the sphincter: Any parts of the muscle are preserved to a maximum, and incontinence is avoided
Laser ablation of pilonidal sinus also called uses laser energy delivered through a flexible fibre to destroy the infected tissues and encourage healing. It has the advantages of little or no incisions with less pain and quicker recovery. It can be undertaken under local or general anaesthetic. It often requires an additional procedure before the laser treatment where the infected hairs are removed and the infection drained using plastic thread (seton) like drains. This operation can also be performed under local or general anaesthetic.
