What is Pilates?
Pilates is named after its creator, Joseph Pilates. It is an exercise programme that works the whole body by co-ordinating the deep postural muscles with the muscles of the upper and lower body. Pilates is becoming more widely recognised in the medical world as a valuable method of injury prevention and rehabilitation. Here at Woodland Hospital the Pilates classes are led by a physiotherapist, they offer the class participants an exercise programme that focuses on correct movement quality and not quantity, core stability and increased postural awareness.
